Your role is to provide temporary housing, affection and care for your foster dog. Additionally, your assessment of the dog will be useful in determining its suitability for adoption.
If you decide you want to adopt your foster dog, please let Byron Dog Rescue know as soon as possible.
Byron Dog Rescue starts advertising, contacting potential adopters, putting the dog on the web-site etc. within 24 hrs of a dog coming into Byron Dog Rescue’s care. Byron Dog Rescue continues its efforts to find a new home for the dog the whole time it is in your care. As soon as you let Byron Dog Rescue know that you intend to adopt the dog, Byron Dog Rescue’s limited resources can be used to spruik other homeless dogs instead. It also means you won’t wake up to find yourself in 2nd or 3rd place in the adoption queue for your foster dog.
You should immediately report missing dogs, injuries, behavioural issues, or any other difficulties you experience to Byron Dog Rescue on one of the phone nos at the top of page 1 of this form.
You must keep the Byron Dog Rescue dog within a fenced area of your property when it is at home. You must always have the dog on a lead when it leaves your property, other than in designated off-leash areas (and only then if you’re sure you can exercise adequate control).
The dog must always wear an ID tag.

You are responsible for picking up after the dog.
You should provide food, fresh water, and a shaded area in your yard for the dog.
If you choose not to use the food provided but would rather feed the dog food you have provided yourself, CAWI is regretfully unable to reimburse you for this expense. Please follow these feeding rules:If you provide bones for the dog, NEVER give it cooked bones of any type as they can splinter and lodge in the intestines. Only feed RAW meaty beef or lamb bones. Lamb and Beef brisket bones (with excess fat removed) and lamb neck bones are excellent for cleaning teeth. Large beef marrow bones (your butcher will saw them in half) are also good for older dogs.
Never give milk to a dog unless advised otherwise.
You are responsible for grooming and bathing the dog when necessary. If your dog is a type that needs to be clipped occasion- ally (e.g. Poodle), please discuss with Byron Dog Rescue.
You should check the dog every day for ticks, twice a day if possible.
Watch out for these signs of tick poisoning: Hind leg weakness / Loss of appetite / Difficulty Breathing / Vomiting. If the dog shows any sign of these symptoms, it is imperative that you ring Byron Dog Rescue immediately.
Never hit or scream at the dog. If you experience behavioural problems, contact BYRON DOG RESCUE.
Never leave the dog in a car during the summer months, not even in a shaded area.
In less than THREE MINUTES, a dog in a car can be dead as it has no sweat glands and can only perspire through the tongue and the pads of the feet.
You should to give us a reasonable amount of time if you find that you are no longer able to care for the dog. Two weeks’ notice would be appreciated, so that we can move the animal to a suitable carer.
